PDF to Excel

Extract tabular data from a PDF into an Excel (.xlsx) workbook, one worksheet per page.

How to use the PDF to Excel

  1. Upload a PDF that contains tables or column-aligned data.
  2. Click Run to convert it.
  3. Download the .xlsx workbook and review each worksheet, one per PDF page.

How the PDF to Excel works

The converter reads the position of every word on each page. Words with nearly the same vertical position are grouped into rows, and the horizontal gaps between words are used to work out the column boundaries. Each row and column then becomes a cell in a worksheet.

This works well for statements, reports and invoices with clearly aligned columns. Free-flowing paragraphs and complex multi-column layouts don't map neatly to a grid, and scanned PDFs without embedded text need OCR first, which this tool doesn't perform.

Frequently asked questions

Is this PDF to Excel converter free?
Yes. Convert PDFs to Excel at no cost, with no account required.
How does it detect columns?
It groups text into rows and columns based on spacing between words on the page - the same approach most free PDF-to-Excel tools use. It works best on PDFs with clearly-aligned tabular data.
Will it work on free-form text or complex layouts?
Not reliably. Free-form paragraphs or multi-column page layouts won't reconstruct into a clean grid - this tool is intended for genuinely tabular data.
Will this work on a scanned PDF?
No. This tool reads text that's already embedded in the PDF. Scanned image-only PDFs need OCR first, which isn't performed by this tool.
