Word to PDF

Experimental

Experimental tool. The output may differ noticeably from what you'd get from the original application. See the FAQ below for details on what is and isn't preserved.

Experimental: this tool re-lays-out your document rather than rendering it like Word does, so the result can look noticeably different from the source - see the FAQ below before relying on it.

Convert a Word (.docx) document to PDF, keeping text, basic formatting, tables, and images.

How to use the Word to PDF

  1. Upload the Word document (.docx). Save older .doc files as .docx first.
  2. Click Run to convert it.
  3. Download the PDF and check the layout. This tool is experimental, so see the FAQ for what is preserved.

How the Word to PDF works

The converter reads the document's paragraphs, runs of formatted text, tables and inline images and lays them out again with a PDF layout engine, without needing Microsoft Word. Bold, italic, underline, headings, paragraph alignment and spacing, simple tables and images are carried across.

Because the document is re-laid-out rather than rendered by Word, fonts are mapped to a small set of standard fonts and line and page breaks may fall in different places. Headers, footers, footnotes, text boxes and multi-column sections aren't included. For a faithful copy of complex documents, export to PDF from Word itself.

Frequently asked questions

Is this Word to PDF converter free?
Yes. Convert .docx files to PDF at no cost, with no account required.
Why is this marked experimental?
This tool doesn't use Word's own rendering engine - it re-lays-out the document's text, tables, and images using a separate PDF layout library. For simple documents (plain paragraphs, basic formatting, simple tables) the result is usually close. For anything more complex, the layout can differ noticeably from the original.
What gets preserved?
Text, bold/italic/underline formatting, heading styles, basic paragraph alignment/spacing, simple tables, and inline images.
What doesn't get preserved?
Headers/footers, footnotes, floating text boxes, multi-column sections, exact fonts (fonts are mapped to a small safe set rather than matched exactly), complex table formatting (merged cells, shading), and precise line/page breaks.
Does this only work with .docx files?
Yes. Older .doc files aren't supported - save or convert them to .docx first.
