Paragraph Counter

Count paragraphs in your text, instantly in your browser.

How to use the Paragraph Counter

  1. Paste your text, keeping a blank line between paragraphs.
  2. Click Run to see the number of paragraphs, sentences and words.
  3. Compare sentences per paragraph to spot paragraphs that are too long to read comfortably.

How the Paragraph Counter works

A paragraph is counted as any block of text separated from the next by at least one blank line. Lines containing only spaces count as blank, and empty blocks are ignored, so extra spacing doesn't inflate the count.

If your text uses single line breaks between paragraphs, as some word processors do when you paste, each paragraph won't be separated; add blank lines first. Short paragraphs of two to four sentences are easier to read on screens, especially on mobile.
