How the Unicode Converter works
Unicode gives every character in every writing system, plus symbols and emoji, a unique number called a code point, written as U+ followed by hexadecimal digits. A is U+0041, é is U+00E9, € is U+20AC and 😀 is U+1F600.
The converter reads text one full code point at a time, so emoji and other characters outside the Basic Multilingual Plane come out as a single value rather than two halves of a UTF-16 surrogate pair. The first 128 code points are identical to ASCII.
