How to use the Currency Converter
- Enter the amount you want to convert.
- Choose the currency you're converting from and the currency you're converting to. Type to search the list.
- Pick an exchange rate service, or leave the default.
- Click Run to see the converted amount and the exchange rate used.
How the Currency Converter works
The converter fetches mid-market exchange rates from the provider you choose: Fixer, Open Exchange Rates, CurrencyAPI or CurrencyFreaks. Providers publish rates against a single base currency, so a conversion between two other currencies is calculated as a cross rate through that base.
Rates are cached for up to an hour per provider to stay within free usage limits, so they are suitable for budgeting, travel planning and price comparisons. Banks, card networks and exchange bureaus add a margin or fees on top of the mid-market rate, so the amount you actually receive will usually be a little lower.

- Why isn't the Xe Currency Data API offered?
- Xe's API does not offer a self-service free tier, so it is not included among the selectable services.
- How fresh are the exchange rates?
- Rates are cached for up to one hour per currency pair and provider to stay within each service's free usage limits.
