How the Number Base Converter works

In a positional number system each digit is multiplied by a power of the base. Binary 1011 means 1×8 + 0×4 + 1×2 + 1×1 = 11 in decimal. The converter reads your digits in the source base to get the value, then repeatedly divides that value by the target base to write out the new digits.

Hexadecimal uses the digits 0 to 9 and the letters A to F for 10 to 15, so each hex digit maps exactly to four binary digits, which is why programmers use hex for memory addresses, colors and byte values. Only non-negative whole numbers are supported.
